The jacket is unclipped and it is without the usual slackness. Usually, in all the copies I've seen, there is at least some 'pull' from the spine it is a hefty tome. If this book has been read it shows little sign of it. The close weave cloth binding is a good colour, and the corners are not damaged. No owner names, no turned over corners, and the over nine hundred pages are clean and tight. The edges of the text block are clean, as is the text, because Gollancz used a decent acid free paper. Book is solid with no separation from the spine the stained top of the text block is still good looking. Over forty years old now, and allowing for that it is rated Near Fine.
